Resume format for ITI freshers in India
One page, trade and certification at the top, and a plain list of the machines and tools you can work on without supervision.
For ITI trade certificate holders applying to plants, apprenticeships, maintenance, and service roles.
Trade and certification go at the top
ITI hiring starts with a trade match. A supervisor filling a fitter vacancy is scanning for the word fitter, the certification body, and the year, and a resume that makes those hard to find loses to one that does not.
- Trade name exactly as on the certificate: fitter, turner, machinist, electrician, welder, diesel mechanic, COPA, draughtsman, and so on.
- NCVT or SCVT, the institute name, and the year of passing.
- Duration of the course (one year or two years) and the trade certificate number if you have it.
- All India Trade Test result if you have cleared it.
Section order for an ITI fresher
Keep it to one page and put practical capability first. Long resumes are not read more carefully in this hiring process; they are read less.
- Contact line with phone number and city. A reachable phone number matters more here than an email address.
- Trade and certification block.
- Machines, tools, and skills.
- Apprenticeship or on-the-job training with establishment name and duration.
- Education (Class 10 or 12), then languages, then availability.
Listing machines and tools the way a supervisor reads them
General statements about hard work and learning quickly do not help here. The specific list does, because the supervisor is deciding whether you can start on a machine on Monday.
- Machines you have operated: lathe, drilling machine, grinding machine, milling machine, power press, CNC or VMC if applicable.
- Hand tools and fitting work: filing, tapping, marking, assembly and dismantling, bearing fitting.
- Measuring instruments: vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, bore gauge, multimeter, tong tester.
- Trade-specific work: arc and MIG welding for welders, panel and motor wiring for electricians, engine overhaul for mechanics, data entry speed and office software for COPA.
Apprenticeship is experience, so write it as experience
A completed apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act is real industrial work, and describing it as training undersells it against candidates who describe the same thing as a job.
- Name the establishment, the department, the trade you worked in, and the duration in months.
- Say what you did daily: machines run, shifts worked, jobs produced, breakdowns attended.
- Include output measures where you know them: components produced per shift, rejection rate, downtime reduced.
- Mention NAPS or NATS registration and whether you hold a completion certificate.
Details that decide plant shortlists
These four lines are worth as much as a paragraph of self-description, because they answer the questions a plant HR team has to answer before calling you.
- Shift flexibility, including night shifts, stated plainly.
- Willingness to relocate and any specific industrial belts you can move to.
- Safety training and PPE discipline, plus any first aid or fire safety training.
- Documents ready: Aadhaar, PAN, bank account, trade certificate, and apprenticeship completion certificate.

Frequently asked questions
How should an ITI fresher write a resume with no job experience?
Lead with the trade and certification, then list machines and tools you can work on, then your workshop or apprenticeship training. Practical capability is the experience in this hiring process.
Does apprenticeship count as work experience on an ITI resume?
Yes. A completed apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act is industrial work and should be written up with the establishment, department, duration, and daily work.
Should an ITI resume be one page?
Yes. Supervisors and plant HR scan for trade, certification, and machine skills. A single clear page performs better than a longer one.
Do I need to mention NCVT or SCVT?
Yes. Many vacancies specify NCVT, so leaving it out can cost you a shortlist you would otherwise qualify for.
